Scattered & Breaking is the second book in a series written by the talented Natalie Camarratta. If you haven’t read Falling & Uprising, STOP, DROP, and ROLL on out. There are spoilers ahead.
I’ll be honest, at the end of Falling & Uprising, I wasn’t Natalie’s biggest fan. Not because her story wasn’t amazing, but because there were so many questions: Where did the water go? Will Serenity and Jase be okay? Why Tori? What the heck just happened?
From the first page of Scattered & Breaking, I was sucked back into the dystopian world of Kaycie, Lawson, and all of the other hidden islands. As some questions start getting answered, new and bigger questions arise.
More Mysteries of Kaycie Unfold
We know from the first book about the order of the islands, and what that means for Bram and his family. When the Uprising starts to falter, Bram’s loyalties do as well. His top priority is Serenity and her safety. Serenity becomes confused, upset, and knows something is wrong. Unfortunately, thanks to a shot of amnesia, she can’t remember what it is!
Natalie does such a fantastic job of bringing you along on each character’s journey and making you feel their emotions and struggles. In addition to Serenity and Bram’s point of view, Scattered & Breaking introduces readers to a third narrator, whose side of the story we haven’t heard before.
These two books have been exactly what I want from a Young Adult Dystopian novel. I’m really looking forward to the third installment.
